Thanksgiving travel period had 50,000 tickets given in New York State
Governor Kathy Hochul’s Traffic Safety Committee shared the Turkey Day ticket data on Friday.
NEW YORK — Law enforcement throughout New York State issued over 50,000 tickets for various vehicle and traffic law violations during the Thanksgiving travel period, according to Governor Kathy Hochul’s Traffic Safety Committee.

The report notes there were 50,466 tickets issued, with 1,705 of those from impaired driving a 42% increase compared to the 2023 Thanksgiving enforcement campaign.
During the holiday, state police set up more sobriety checkpoints and added extra patrols.
“The results of this effort are staggering. Far too many people put their lives and the lives of others at risk through the poor choices that can easily be mitigated,” Governor Hochul said in a statement.
“I want to thank our law enforcement officers for their continued commitment to remove these drivers from our roadways and keep New Yorkers safe.”
A detailed breakdown of the total tickets issued is as follows:
- Impaired driving – 1,705
- Distracted driving – 1,702
- Move Over – 483
- Speeding – 10,078
- Seatbelt – 2,812
- Other violations – 33,686
In 2023 during the Thanksgiving holiday period, law enforcement officers arrested 1,342 drivers for DWI, issued 7,656 speeding tickets, and 970 tickets for distracted driving.
